Tour Details

everest-region-trekkingThe Everest or KhumbuRegion is justifiably the most famous of all trekking and mountain regions. Located in eastern Nepal, the Everest region offers a wide range of trekking experiences. From the Everest Base Camp trek (listed as one of the ten best trips in the world) to treks in remote semi-wilderness areas, there is much to choose from. Khumbu is also the home of the legendary Sherpas.
The northen part of this region lies within the Sagarmatha National Park, which was established to protect the fragile ecosystem of the alpine region. To the east of the Sagarmatha National Park is the Makalu-Barun National Park, a remote and wild stretch of mountain peaks and deep, densely forested valleys. To the west is the Rolwaling valley, a well protected microcosm of cultures. Everest 02 (RS)
The southern part is less frequented by tourists but could be a very rewarding destination in its own right. Mount Everest naturally is the major attraction here, but there are other 8,000 meter peaks in the region such as Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Makalu besides the many lesser peaks which are no less stunning. There’s more to Khumbu than just mountains. The stark beauty in the form of glacial lakes, resplendent rhododendron forests, native flora and fauna, charming villages and ancient Buddhist monasteries all add up to make this region an irresistible tourist destination.

Everest Base Camp – Kala Patthar

Everest Base CampA trek to the Base Camp of Mount Everest, world’s highest mountain (8.850m), is high on the wishlist of many trekkers. The trail leads you alongside the foot of mighty Himalaya giants, towering high above you. The views from Kala Patthar of Mount Everest, and many other seven and eight thousand peaks are just unforgettable. After Namche Bazar you climb above the tree line quite quickly and you find yourself walking in a stunning high altitude landscape. Flying in and out of Lukla (2.840m), set already amidst the Himalaya, you need about two weeks for the Everest Base Camp trek. The region is dotted with well-equipped lodges, run by the friendly Sherpa people. As with this trek you climb high very quickly, it is important to take acclimatization days, and to be aware of signs of altitude sickness.

HT Rolwaling Section, Lower Trail

RolwalingAt this section of the GHT you completely leave the tourist trail behind and you hardly find any lodges. You pass through beautiful lush forests, with lots of birds, which makes this section interesting for bird watchers as well. The villages, which have hardly seen any tourists, offer an interesting mix of Buddhist and Hindu cultures. The Himalayas are in view as well and you have especially great view of the Gaurishankar (7.135m). The easy access from Kathmandu is an extra advantage of this section.
